The Schrammsteine are a long strung-out, very jagged group of rocks in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains located in eastern German — an iconic ridge of jagged sandstone rising above sweeping forest and open countryside. The composition was created by combining two separate photographs spliced together to build a single panoramic scene. Painted as a departure from familiar subject matter, the piece explores scale, texture, and atmosphere—capturing both the rugged presence of the stone and the vast landscape stretching beyond it.
